Its been here almost 6 months now and i am so absorbed in the countries "she'll be right" attitude that it took me 3 months to write something about what i am doing here and another 3 to post it on the blog ..The country just has so much to offer that i have found some really really exciting and interesting things to do - did something absolutely fantastic yesterday (ofcourse u need to go back 3 months in time - just read it like a novel) - it was a 90 km bike ride from sydney to wollongong and - we were a team of 4 and raised 545 $ for MS affected people :)
The ride was absolutely exhilarating - to say the least - and certainly something that will go down as one of the coolest things done in Australia .. It might not have been a perfect start (with the rains - and us wishing for hot coffee and hot showers) but we headed out at 7 in the morn and as the day unfolded we could not have asked for anything better - it was JUST Perfect..
The setting was just so splendid and the ride dint seem so tough - as expectations may have been for a much tougher ride - crossing through the grand pacific drive - if its not considered as the best drive in the world it is certianly the best in australia - passing through rainforests and hills and the entire pacific coast to the left (incase u were wondering why its called the grand pacific drive :) Myself and another mate (aka mr labruge) did the ride at our pace and enjoyed our stops along the way and dips in the ocean and then headed to the buddhist temple at wollongong after the ride.. (which made it all together 140 Kms of riding yesterday)
The 10000 riders, the smiling faces of the volunteers along the way, stories of a kid all but 5 yrs age who completed 90 kms to gong - on a non gear bmx bike, 80 year old guys and gals pushing hard on their bikes making us look 90 , people with babies on the back of their cycles - the fantatsic views which you don’t even appreciate a percentage of from the car windscreen all of this and much more made the ride a breeze (well not exactly, but it was very very pleasurable) - as i had done the same on a roadtrip over one o the weekends
This is something that i have come to appreciate about australia - The Spirit .. And whats really cool is that after the knee operation i have been able to do it in good time - my leg has really healed and i am as good as normal - and i dont think it would have happened if not for wishes and care from family and friends
Thanks for riding with me :) - it meant the 'gong'
